VirusHunter advances toward clinical validation
VirusHunter (VH) – One Test for Any Virus (DIGIT.2.2.01.013) is a next-generation diagnostic platform designed to detect clinically relevant viruses in a single test, including novel and emerging pathogens. Through the DIGIT Project Seal of Excellence Synergies Programme, BioDetect Solutions has received funding to advance VirusHunter from proof of concept (TRL 4) towards a clinically validated prototype (TRL 6), bringing the technology one step closer to further clinical and commercial development. The project builds on a proposal that has been awarded the Seal of Excellence under HORIZON-WIDERA-2025-02-ACCESS-01-EIC Pre-Accelerator for Widening Countries. The Seal of Excellence is a recognition of the high quality and potential of the VirusHunter proposal, following a competitive European-level evaluation process. For BioDetect Solutions, this recognition represents an important milestone and provides valuable independent validation of the scientific quality, innovation and potential impact of the VirusHunter concept. VirusHunter is supported through the Digital, Innovation and Green Technology Project (DIGIT Project) under the Seal of Excellence Synergies Program. The programme supports the validation and commercialisation of high-quality research and innovation projects originating from Horizon Europe proposals and is implemented by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth with support from the Croatian Science Foundation.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR VIRUSHUNTER?
During the project, we will optimise the manufacturing and stability of VirusHunterbaits, integrate them into a robust and standardised workflow, and demonstrate the platform’s analytical and clinical performance in selected use cases, benchmarked against standard-of-care technologies.
In parallel, we will strengthen the path towards commercialisation by developing intellectual property protection, a regulatory and market-access roadmap, and a validated business model in collaboration with early adopters and key stakeholders.
